The 3D Sphere Primitive

You can add a sphere primitive to your 3D view by clicking the sphere icon in the Primitives section. The sphere is essentially a globe or ball shape but the shapes you create with a sphere don’t necessarily have to be round. By varying the numbers of sides and height segments in the sphere's properties, you can change the sphere to create shapes. Default property values for the sphere are set in the Preferences tab, in the New Sphere Default Settings.

  1. Add a sphere primitive to your 3D view by clicking the sphere icon in the Primitives section of the Home ribbon. The sphere will appear in your 3D view, and you will see it listed in the Explorer and the Properties tab.

  2. Use the tools in the Home ribbon's Manipulator section to change the shape, size, and orientation of the sphere; this is easier than using the sphere's properties to do the same.

  3. Use the sphere's properties to make other changes to the sphere. Many of the sphere's properties are described in Common Properties for All 3D Primitives. A sphere has properties called Hemisphere and Hemisphere2 which define the two hemispheres of the sphere. Use these properties to truncate a sphere. The range for each hemisphere property is from 0 (the top of the sphere) to 1 (the bottom of the sphere).

  1. To survey the 3D display, use the tools described in Navigating in a 3D Viewport and the perspective buttons described in View Section of the 3D Home Ribbon.

You can:

Add a dynamic from the Dynamic ribbon

Move, scale, rotate, transform, or duplicate the sphere

Change the look (color, texture..)
