When configuring servers and clients for use with GENESIS64 and GraphWorX64 3D, keep the following considerations in mind:
GENESIS64 runs on .NET technology (version 3.0 and subsequent versions).
GENESIS64 requires a 64-bit operating system on the server side only; servers must be 64-bit operating systems running on 64-bit machines. In contrast, clients can have 32-bit or 64-bit operating systems, although 64-bit clients are ideal for performance.
GraphWorX64 displays can be run and configured inside Windows Internet Explorer. This is ideal for connecting your development engineers’ and runtime users’ 64-bit and 32-bit clients to the 64-bit server.
Note: Using a 32-bit client may affect the acceleration of 3D graphics in a GraphWorX64 display; that is, 3D animations on a 32-bit remote desktop may be 5% to 10% slower than on a 64-bit remote desktop. |
In GENESIS64, WCF (Windows Communication Foundation) replaces DCOM communication. However, GENESIS64 can use GenBroker to talk to legacy servers (such as, GENESIS32 version 9.x) that still use DCOM. In the same light, legacy clients (such as, GENESIS32 version 9.x) can connect to a GENESIS64 64-bit server.
The performance of your 3D objects will be determined by a number of factors. For example, the required refresh rate and speed could be compromised if a complex graphic cannot be adequately handled by a machine’s bandwidth. A variety of strategies and tips are provided in this guide to help you optimize performance of 3D views.
