To configure general E-mail Agent settings, click the General Settings button while in the E-mail folder. If you do not see the General Settings button, make sure that Dialog View is checked on the View menu.
The E-Mail Agent general settings dialog box opens. Here you can configure the settings for the active e-mail type:
Simple MAPI (for use with Microsoft Outlook Express, Lotus Notes, Simple MAPI Mail)
Extended MAPI (for use with Microsoft Outlook)
SMTP (for use with SMTP server outgoing mail only)
For Simple MAPI and Extended MAPI, the Mail Client Interaction field allows you to specify how the e-mail deals with alarm acknowledgement:
Do not delete e-mails
Delete all complete or invalid e-mails
Delete only complete e-mails)
No acknowledgement
In the Ack Store Time in Hours field, you must also configure how long the server will keep a list of alarms that went off in a period of time for acknowledgement purposes. However, if you acknowledge an alarm beyond the specified hour, it will be acknowledged. This option lets you maintain the size of the acknowledge queue. The default value is 0 (zero) hours, which means that the queue can grow infinitely large.
For Extended MAPI, you must also specify your mail box name. However, if it is called Inbox Name (this is Outlook default), you can leave it blank.
For SMTP:
Provide your mail server name, your user name, password, and the default port number is 25. If your system checks the sender email address for validation as email security, enter your email address in the From Email Address field.
In the tree structure on the left side, right-click on Email to create a new Media Item. Fill in the necessary fields.
Click the Test button for the Media Template field. The test should return a success or failure message.
The E-mail Agent attempts to use the Extended SMTP (ESMTP) method AUTH to provide secure e-mail authorization. This corresponds to the User Name and Password. For some systems this option is not available. If the ESMTP command is not available or there is no user name or password, the system will still attempt to send an e-mail using the standard SMTP support.
Note: The e-mail password is encrypted and stored in the HKEY_CURRENT_USERS registry area. This means that only the Windows account logged in at the time the e-mail password is configured has access to the password. |
Some mail systems validate the sending e-mail address as a method of securing e-mail. This address can be set by filling out the From E-mail Address field.
