The Workbench is a centralized web-based environment where you can configure all GENESIS64 components. The Workbench can also act as an advanced operator interface for service management and has built-in project management functionality. This Help topic intends to give you a general overview of the Workbench capabilities.
You can configure all GENESIS64 applications within the Workbench, allowing for faster development and cost savings in building any application. At a glance, the Workbench has the following capabilities and advantages:
Remote Web-Based Configuration
Ability for Concurrent Configurations
Fully Customizable
Supports Online Changes
Outlook-style Navigation Bar
Load-On-Demand Support
Supports All GENESIS64 Servers
Layout Manager
Template Gallery
Pack and Go
The Workbench is installed with GENESIS64. The Workbench consists of three main sections:
The ribbon at the top
The Project Explorer to the left
The contents area, which is the rest of the screen
We will go through each of these different sections in this document. It is recommended that you should be familiar with the workspace inside the Workbench and be able to customize it to allow for maximum productivity.
NOTE: There is also a remote access capability to work with the Workbench over Internet Explorer. For more information, please refer to the application note entitled "GENESIS64 – Running in Internet Explorer".
The Workbench
There are four tabs in the Workbench ribbon: File, Home, Project and Tools. We will discuss some of these tabs in later sections.
Tabs of the Workbench Ribbon
On the left side you will see all of the ICONICS providers inside the Project Explorer. This is not limited to ICONICS application servers; you can add third party application servers also. For more information regarding the addition of third-party application servers, please refer to documentation or contact ICONICS Technical Support.
The Project Explorer in the Workbench
You will see that this increases the usability of the application servers. If your project needs just a few of the application servers, you can remove the unwanted application servers in the project manager. For more information regarding project management, please refer to the application note "Workbench – Project Management Quick Start".
As mentioned before, you can add or remove application servers as needed to the specific project. This is done by clicking on the “Configure Application(s) settings” button in the Home ribbon when you have the project selected in the Project Explorer.
Configure Application(s) Settings Dialog
Click on a specific SQL Server or Catalog and you can choose a different server or database for each application.
Choosing Another Database
You can also connect your Workbench to a remote server using the “New Server” functionality from the Home tab. You just have to specify the new server name or location and click OK.
New Server
You can also pack your project for easy deployment, using the “Pack Project” functionality in the Home tab.
Pack Project Option
You can choose between different options in the dialog. The packed project can be unpacked, explored, and encrypted by the Workbench.
NOTE: For more information on how to pack or deploy a project, please refer to the application note entitled "Workbench – Project Management Quick Start".
If you click on the File tab (highlighted tab at the top left corner), you get some general options as shown in the following image.
Workbench Options
In the options, you can start TraceWorX64 as shown in the following image. This information could be helpful in case you need to troubleshoot an issue.
TraceWorX64
When you click the Login/Logout option, it will display a Security Login dialog. Using this dialog, you can log into ICONICS security. This is also important because once you enable security, you may need to login before you can see some of the options in the application tree. If you see a blank application tree when you click an application such as Global Aliasing, it could be because of a lack of security. Using this option to login should bring back your configuration.

A number of GENESIS64 components are servers or services that you can control and modify within the Workbench. They include:
AlarmWorX64 Server - starts and stops the alarm server, as well as provides a configuration interface to configure alarms.
AlarmWorX64 Logger - starts and stops the alarm logger, as well as allowing the user to specify different logger configurations similar to Workbench classic.
If you want to start or stop a specific service, click on it in the Project Explorer and in the Home tab a traffic light will appear (Green = running/Red = stopped). You can change the state by clicking on it.
